Harry Potter: Much More Than a Book Series

For more than millions of people, Harry Potter is goes beyond the role of just being a book series. No, Harry Potter is so much more than that. When JK Rowling wrote the Harry Potter novels, she was not just writing books- she was writing history. Not the text book this-is-the-cause-and-effect-of-what-happened- kind of history, Jo wrote Harry Potter and by writing these books, Jo literally changed history. The Harry Potter books have taught millions upon millions of children, teenagers and even adults the values of morals, and the difference between right and wrong. By taking the idea of good vs evil, and twisting it in so many different ways Jk Rowling has taught people the rewards of doing the right things. JK Rowling has re-defined what we call ‘bravery’. Bravery, before the Harry Potter novels, was commonly known as being unfearful. Through her novels, Joanne has taught us that bravery is not just being ‘not afraid’; bravery is when you’re scared to death to do something-but you do it anyways. This is one way that Harry Potter has influenced this generation, because it has taught people this lesson in life: do what you want and what is right; even if it scares you. Another way the Harry Potter series has influenced the generation today is making everyone realize just how important family is. The entire series evolved from the loss of his parents, and each character introduced along the way impacted how Harry began to see how families are meant to be. He’s pretty much adopted by the Weasley’s, that show him a true family structure. Hagrid, Dumbledore, Sirius and Arthur are all father figures to Harry, and he learns very important lessons from all of them. For children who had a childhood like mine, there is nothing more emotional than seeing a family that is structured so well. I was not an orphan as Harry was, but my family is very estranged from each other and because of this i was able to relate to Harry, yearning for that sense of belonging and love. Potterheads such as I thank JK Rowling for creating this family sensation, because now we too have a family that includes millions of people and counting. Harry Potter connects millions of people worldwide, hell, look at the amount of people like me who have blogs full of everything Harry Potter. It’s because Harry Potter is an influence, everything about the series is. The good vs evil plot, the characters, the environments, the families, bad guys, good guys- it all influences each and everyone of us to be a better person. To overcome evil and defend what we truly believe is right. To be brave like a Gryffindor, use our heads like a Ravenclaw, be loyal like a Hufflepuff and be confident like a Slytherin. The biggest influence of all though are not the novels, but the author herself. JK Rowling came from nothing, she was homeless with her daughter when she first started writing the novels. Now she’s almost as rich as Oprah. And through all of her struggles, she never once made a wrong decision. She came from nothing, and changed everything in the world. This is my personal thankyou to JK Rowling. Thankyou Joanne, for changing our generation, for changing how people think and act, getting people to be a better person. Thankyou JK Rowling for writing Harry Potter. Thankyou for writing my childhood.

I was a Harry Potter nerd. Pencils were wands. I was going to Hogwarts. The whole thing. You don’t understand what a nerd I am. I mean, if they remade them, I’d still go. Like, I’ve seen all of [the originals], and that’s always going to be Harry. That’s always going to be Ron and Hermione. But if they did it again, I absolutely would go, because I want to see it all again.

Have you ever felt alone? i have
have you ever fallen in love? i have
have you ever been so scared to do something, but brave enough to do it anyways? i have
have you ever lied to someone you love to protect them? i have
have you ever fallen down, but stood back up? i have
have you ever felt so much hatred, but just smiled anyways? i have
have you ever had to save your parent’s life? i have
have you ever had to deal with things you shouldn’t have? i have

so don’t tell me i don’t have any experience in this world, because I’ve probably had more experiences in my 16 years than you have had your entire life.
